Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas received a telephone call from Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand to discuss the arrangements for the upcoming International Peace Conference in New York on September 22. The discussion focused on ensuring the success of the conference and achieving its objectives.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas expressed his gratitude towards Canada for its supportive stance and its intention to recognize the State of Palestine soon. He reiterated Palestine's commitment to honoring its pledges, implementing reform programs, holding elections, and advancing in sectors such as education, health, and social care.
The President emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza, delivering humanitarian aid to alleviate starvation, securing the release of hostages and detainees, and allowing the State of Palestine to assume full responsibilities in the region.
The conversation also touched on the unilateral measures by the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, which violate international law, particularly colonial settlement activities and actions by colonists. President Abbas highlighted the seriousness of annexation efforts in the occupied Palestinian Territory and the need for a political solution based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Furthermore, President Abbas underscored the importance of continued coordination between Palestine and Canada in the future.
