Ramallah: The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) has reported that the Israeli prison system uses winter conditions as a tool of torture against Palestinian prisoners and detainees. This is achieved through a policy of continuous deprivation of basic necessities like clothing and heating.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the deprivation exacerbates both physical and psychological suffering among the detainees, leading to the spread of diseases and weakening their bodies. In a statement issued today, PPS explained that the policy of stripping prisoners and detainees of their personal belongings, including clothing and essential items, has been an arbitrary measure by the Israeli prison system since the onset of what is referred to as the genocide. Initially used as a form of collective punishment and systematic revenge, this policy has morphed into a method of organized physical and psychological torture over time.
The statement further elaborated that more than two years have passed since the genocide and comprehensive aggression targeting prisoners and detainees, turning prisons into a parallel field of genocide. Yet, the prison system persists in using various tools to subdue and torture prisoners. The concept of torture has expanded beyond the internationally recognized framework, becoming difficult to confine its tools and methods within an integrated repressive system. This has resulted in the martyrdom of over one hundred prisoners and detainees, with the identities of 87 individuals announced, while others continue to suffer enforced disappearance.
