Ofer prison: The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) reported a significant increase in illness cases among prisoners in Ofer Prison, attributed to harsh detention conditions and inadequate healthcare, during a special briefing on visits conducted in January and February 2026.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the PPS statement highlighted that detainees are experiencing ongoing physical assaults and are being denied necessary medical treatment, worsening their health conditions. Notably, prisoner (M.Y.) has suffered severe health deterioration, losing approximately 26 kg due to hunger and untreated injuries.
The report further detailed the condition of prisoner (B.J.), who requires urgent medical attention for multiple health issues, including blood clots and diabetes, exacerbated by beatings and lack of dental care. Another inmate, (D.N.), faces severe complications from injuries sustained during arrest, with no available treatment according to doctors. Additionally, prisoner (A.A.) has lost hearing in one ear due to a violent assault.
The PPS stressed that these are not isolated incidents, as prisoners face a serious health crisis resulting from the medical neglect policy prevalent in Ofer and other Israeli prisons.
