Poll: 57% of Americans Support Establishment of a Palestinian State

Washington: A public opinion poll conducted in the United States shows that 57 percent of Americans are in favor of an independent Palestinian state, nearly matching a reading from 2003 as the highest Gallup has measured.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency, the latest poll conducted by Gallup, the largest probability-based research panel in the U.S., indicates a notable shift in Americans' attitudes toward Israel and Palestine compared with previous years.

The poll revealed that 65% of Democrats say their sympathies lie more with the Palestinians, while 17% say they sympathize more with the Israelis. In contrast, the poll finds that 70% of Republicans sympathize more with the Israelis, compared with 13% who sympathize more with the Palestinians. Although this remains a substantial gap, sympathy for the Israelis among Republicans has declined by 10 points since 2024 to its lowest level since 2004.

The survey also highlighted that 41% of independents sympathize with the Palestinians, compared with 30% who sympathize with the Israelis. In previous years, 42% favored Israel and 34% favored the Palestinians.
