Ramallah: Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa opened the weekly Cabinet session by emphasizing President Mahmoud Abbas's recent decree-law amending the General Elections Law No. (1) of 2007.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, the Prime Minister described this amendment as a crucial step towards advancing the Palestinian democratic process, enhancing political participation, and broadening democratic representation.
During the session, the Cabinet expressed grave concerns over escalating terror crimes by settler militias across the West Bank. Recent attacks on the towns of Burqa and Deir Dibwan resulted in injuries and extensive property damage due to arson. The Cabinet urged the international community to take effective punitive measures against the settler terrorists and to provide protection for the Palestinian people, especially as these attacks coincide with ongoing actions by Israeli occupation forces, such as the demolition operations in Barta'a.
The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip was also a focal point of the Cabinet meeting. The ongoing attacks by Israeli occupation forces, coupled with severe shortages of flour and medicines, have led to the closure of bread distribution points and exacerbated civilian suffering. The Cabinet appealed to the guarantor states of the ceasefire agreement to pressure Israel to cease its attacks, reopen crossings, and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to civilians.
In another matter, the Cabinet reviewed preparations for the General Secondary Education Examination (Tawjihi), which will be taken by approximately 88,000 students across various regions. Due to instability and school destruction in the Gaza Strip, Tawjihi examinations will be conducted online for the third year. Efforts to expand fiber-optic internet services in public schools in the West Bank are also underway.
The Cabinet also received updates from the Minister of Health on securing continued medicine supplies and from the Ministry of Finance regarding efforts to address medicine shortages through international support. The Cabinet approved an increase in the quantities of medicines under Tender No. (23/2025), focusing on maternity and obstetric departments.
Addressing the fiscal crisis caused by Israel's withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues, the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance discussed efforts to secure partial salary payments for public employees and fulfill obligations to suppliers. Preparations for the pilot launch of the Yabous application for select sectors were also discussed, with plans for a full rollout pending successful testing.
