PM Mustafa Discusses Ceasefire Efforts with EU Special Representative for Middle East Peace Process

Ramallah: Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa held discussions at his office with the newly appointed EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, Christophe Bigot, focusing on recent developments and efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the meeting was attended by Minister of Social Development Samah Hamad and the European Union Representative to Palestine, Alexander Stutzmann. The key agenda included supporting an upcoming International Peace Conference in New York, under the United Nations' auspices, aimed at stopping the war on Gaza, ending the occupation, and establishing a sovereign Palestinian state. The discussions highlighted the need for concrete steps to achieve long-term political and economic stability.

Prime Minister Mustafa emphasized that resolving the Gaza crisis is primarily a political issue and that addressing it would lead to solutions for humanitarian, security, and national concerns, facilitating recovery and reconstruction in the region. He also called for increased European pressure on Israel to release withheld Palestinian funds and stop illegal deductions from Palestinian clearance revenues.

During the talks, Mustafa updated the EU Special Representative on institutional reform efforts to improve service delivery to the Palestinian people. EU diplomat Christophe Bigot stressed the importance of joint efforts towards a two-state solution and reiterated the EU's opposition to Israeli annexation plans and settler violence. He emphasized the need to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure humanitarian aid delivery to support recovery and reconstruction, while expressing support for the Palestinian government's efforts during these challenging times.
