Post: PLO Executive Committee Appoints Hussein Al-Sheikh as Deputy Chairman and Deputy President

Ramallah: The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has officially approved Hussein Al-Sheikh as the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the PLO and Deputy President of the State of Palestine.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, this appointment follows a proposal by President Mahmoud Abbas, in line with a decision made by the Palestinian Central Council during its 32nd session in Ramallah on April 24, 2025. The meeting of the Executive Committee, chaired by President Abbas, also reviewed the outcomes of the Central Council's session and deliberated on practical measures for implementing its decisions.

President Abbas emphasized the importance of initiating a comprehensive national dialogue. This effort will be spearheaded by a joint committee from the PLO Executive Committee and Fatah's Central Committee, engaging all Palestinian factions to achieve reconciliation and strengthen national unity.

In addition, President Abbas updated the committee on forthcoming political initiatives aimed at countering the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip. He highlighted the urgent need to expedite the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid, ensure the State of Palestine's full governance over the Gaza Strip, and advocate for a complete Israeli withdrawal. This is seen as a crucial step towards initiating a political process to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The PLO Executive Committee plans to reconvene next Saturday to select a new Secretary-General from among its members.
