Baku:Two Palestinian women imprisoned at Damon Prison are enduring severe health issues under challenging detention conditions. Basmala Saad and Israa Ahmad Huje are both suffering from scabies, exacerbated by a lack of hygiene supplies and high humidity levels within the prison.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Basmala Saad, aged 20, has been detained since March 13, 2026. She reported that the scabies infection has led to blisters and swelling on her legs and that despite receiving medication, her condition has not improved. Furthermore, she was placed in solitary confinement following a cell raid on October 7, 2026.
Israa Ahmad Huje, 31, has been held since February 27, 2026. She experiences persistent itching due to scabies, particularly at night, which disrupts her sleep. Both women described to the Commission's lawyer the difficult conditions they face, including frequent cell raids where tear gas and stun grenades were used on October 7. They also cited food shortages and poor food quality as ongoing issues.
