Jerusalem:Vice President of the State of Palestine, Hussein al-Sheikh, has condemned Israeli actions targeting the British Consulate General in Jerusalem and its staff.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, al-Sheikh stated that such measures represent unacceptable interference in diplomatic missions. He described them as attempts to assert Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967 and is considered by Palestine as its capital.
He expressed appreciation for the United Kingdom's rejection of any Israeli efforts to close the consulate, highlighting its long-established presence in East Jerusalem.
Al-Sheikh also praised Britain's commitment to maintaining the consulate's operations, serving the Palestinian people, and continuing its presence in Jerusalem.
He reiterated the State of Palestine's dedication to enhancing relations with the United Kingdom, collaborating to end the Israeli occupation, and working towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in support of a two-state solution.
