Palestinian Trade Union Chief Condemns Israeli Crime Against Palestinian Workers South of Hebron

Hebron: Shaher Saad, Secretary General of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions, strongly condemned the attack by Israeli occupation forces, who opened fire on Wednesday evening on several Palestinian vehicles transporting workers, killing one and injuring others.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Saad reported that Israeli occupation forces fired at a vehicle carrying workers on the road near Umm al-Khair, east of Yatta. This attack resulted in the death of one individual and left several others injured, with conditions ranging from serious to moderate. Saad denounced the act as a serious violation of international laws and conventions that are meant to protect civilians and workers during their travels and in their pursuit of livelihoods.

Saad urged the International Labour Organization, the International Trade Union Confederation, and the International Federation of Building and Wood Workers to take responsibility by exposing these crimes and taking serious actions to pressure for the protection of Palestinian workers and an end to ongoing violations against them.

He pointed out that this incident marks the second such crime this month. He recalled a previous event occurring ten days ago in Tammun, south of Tubas, where worker Ali Khaled Sayel Bani Awda, his wife Widad Othman Aqel Bani Awda, and their two children, Mohammad and Othman, were killed by Israeli forces' gunfire while returning from Nablus.

Saad emphasized the importance of international intervention, stating that the continued targeting of workers and their families reflects a dangerous escalation. He called for immediate action to halt these violations, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure a safe environment that preserves the dignity and rights of Palestinian workers.
