Palestinian Prisoner Advocacy Groups Report Over 9,250 Held in Israeli Jails

Ramallah: Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups have announced that the number of Palestinians imprisoned or detained in Israeli jails has surpassed 9,250 as of November. Most of these individuals are held as administrative detainees, a status that allows for detention without charge or trial. This number excludes those held in Israeli military camps.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, of the total detainees, 1,242 are sentenced prisoners. The report also notes that 49 women are currently imprisoned, including one woman from the Gaza Strip.

The report highlights that over 350 Palestinian children are detained in Israeli prisons, specifically in Ofer and Megiddo facilities. The count of administrative detainees has reached 3,368, showing a significant portion of the overall detainee population.

Additionally, the report outlines that there are 1,205 detainees classified as "unlawful combatants." This classification encompasses detainees from Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, although not all detainees from Gaza are included under this designation.
