Palestinian Government Outlines Four Key Strategies for Economic Development

Ramallah: Through the National Program for Development and Reform, the Palestinian Government is actively engaging in a comprehensive series of administrative, institutional, and legislative measures aimed at fostering economic growth in various sectors such as trade and business. This initiative is being championed under the auspices of the Ministry of National Economy.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, these efforts have resulted in substantial improvements in the Ministry's work environment and the quality of services provided to citizens and the private sector. The government is on track to implement its plan to recover and enhance the productivity of economic sectors devastated by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip.

The government's strategy is structured around four primary areas: legislation and laws, digital transformation, institutional reform and restructuring, and the reconstruction of economic sectors. Firstly, the Ministry has initiated interventions to support the economic sectors affected by the Israeli occupation, with plans in place to execute 56 sub-programs across 18 sectors, including housing, social services, infrastructure, economy, and governance, in collaboration with ministries, national institutions, and international partners.

Secondly, legislative reforms have been prioritized to enhance market competitiveness and regulation. Over the past year and a half, under Dr. Mohammad Mustafa's government, the legal framework has been updated to align with modern standards and the needs of the Palestinian market. Key achievements include the issuance of laws to prevent monopolistic practices and regulate online transactions, as well as efforts to amend existing laws to bolster consumer rights and improve private sector performance.

In terms of partnership with the private sector, several initiatives have been approved, such as the National Strategy for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and the 'Green Economy in Palestine' project. These initiatives aim to foster innovation and expand market access while promoting sustainable practices through events like the 'Green Solutions 2025 Exhibition.'

Thirdly, the government has made significant strides in digital transformation by launching an integrated e-services system. This includes automating company registration and facilitating electronic transactions, as well as implementing platforms like 'Behmna' for complaints and 'E-Souq' for marketing women's home-based products.

Lastly, at the institutional level, the Ministry of National Economy has undergone a comprehensive restructuring to better align with national priorities. This includes the establishment of specialized units for SMEs, the green economy, and e-commerce, ensuring that modern industrial and trade policies are effectively integrated.
