Palestinian Detainee from Gaza Dies in Israeli Custody

Gaza City: A Palestinian detainee from the Gaza Strip has died in Israeli custody, according to the Commission of Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs and the Palestine Prisoner's Society (PPS). Mus'ab Hani Haniyeh, 35, passed away on January 5, 2025, while being held in Israeli imprisonment.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Commission and the PPS announced in a joint press release that they were informed by the Israeli occupation forces about Haniyeh's death. Haniyeh, a father of a nine-year-old child, was detained on March 3, 2024, from Hamad City. Prior to his detention, he was not suffering from any significant health issues.

The organizations revealed that Haniyeh's death marks the 59th case of detainees who have died due to systematic torture in Israeli custody since the onset of Israeli aggression, with at least 38 of them being from the Gaza Strip. Since 1967, the total number of detainee deaths has reached 296. They also highlighted that other detainees could have died under similar circumstances, with their identities still concealed. Many detainees from the Gaza Strip remain forcefully disappeared in Israeli custody.

The Commission and the PPS condemned Haniyeh's death as an addition to the ongoing list of crimes against Palestinian detainees. They expressed concern over the systematic torture, ill-treatment, and the increasingly dangerous situation as thousands of Palestinian detainees remain in Israeli imprisonment, facing torture, starvation, medical neglect, sexual assaults, and exposure to contagious diseases.
