Palestinian Dailies Highlight Rising Gaza Casualties and Fatah’s Governance Stand

Ramallah: The three major Palestinian Arabic dailies-Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Al-Ayyam, and Al-Quds-have prominently featured the escalating death toll in Gaza due to ongoing Israeli military actions. Since October 7, 2023, the number of fatalities has reached 68,519, with 170,382 individuals reported injured.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the newspapers also highlighted a statement from Fatah, emphasizing the necessity of managing Gaza's affairs under the Palestinian government's authority for a temporary period. The statement underlined the importance of such governance in the current context.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida reported on various incidents, including the tragic death of a child and several injuries when a building collapsed south of Gaza City. Additionally, four people were injured during an Israeli airstrike on a vehicle in central Gaza. The daily also noted warnings from humanitarian organizations regarding the dangers posed by remnants of war in the region.

Al-Ayyam drew attention to increasing Israeli ceasefire violations, including airstrikes on vehicles and civilians. The paper mentioned statements from international figures, including Donald Trump, about potential stabilization efforts in Gaza. It also covered Israeli political figures' calls for annexation of the West Bank and the rejection by Fatah of any external guardianship over Gaza.

Al-Quds focused on the artillery shelling and destruction in Gaza, alongside escalating attacks by colonists on olive harvesters. The daily reported Fatah's position that any international force should be stationed on Gaza's borders rather than inside the region. Legal actions against individuals involved in the conflict were also featured prominently.

The situation remains critical as Israel continues to block vital supplies, exacerbating the health crisis in Gaza as winter approaches. The dailies underscored the urgent need for humanitarian aid and the ongoing efforts by various organizations to address these challenges.
