Post: Palestine Liberation Organization Celebrates 62nd Anniversary

Ramallah: The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) marked its 62nd anniversary on Thursday, commemorating its establishment as a national liberation movement. The PLO was founded during the first Palestinian National Council meeting in Jerusalem on June 1, 1964, with Ahmad Shuqeiri appointed as its inaugural chairman.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency, Yasser Arafat assumed the role of chairman of the PLO after the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, a position he held until his death in 2004. He was succeeded by President Mahmoud Abbas. The PLO has been recognized globally as the sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
