Palestine Braces for Prolonged Heatwave with Soaring Temperatures

Ramallah: The Palestine Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that a heatwave is set to grip the region, with temperatures expected to rise significantly above their annual averages in the coming days. Residents have been advised to prepare for hot to very hot conditions, as temperatures are predicted to soar to approximately 4 degrees Celsius above the typical levels.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Thursday's weather forecast indicates that temperatures will begin their climb, reaching about 4 degrees Celsius above the annual average. The winds are expected to be westerly to northwesterly, remaining light to moderate, with occasional activity. Sea conditions will see light to medium waves.

The heatwave is anticipated to intensify on Friday, with temperatures climbing further to approximately 5 degrees Celsius above the norm. The PMD noted that winds will shift slightly, coming from the southwest to northwest, while maintaining their light to moderate strength with sporadic activity. Sea waves are expected to remain light to medium.

As the weekend approaches, Saturday's forecast predicts a continuation of the hot to very hot conditions, with no significant change in temperature levels, maintaining the 5°C increase over the average. The wind patterns will revert to westerly to northwesterly, with similar light to moderate conditions and occasional bursts. Sea waves will persist as light to medium.

Sunday will see a slight respite in the heat, with temperatures experiencing a minor drop but still remaining around 4°C above the usual average. The PMD has reiterated the presence of westerly to northwesterly winds, light to moderate with some activity, and consistent light to medium sea waves.

In light of the expected extreme weather, the PMD has issued a warning against prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, particularly during peak hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. They have also cautioned against lighting fires in areas with dry grass, due to the heightened fire risk. Citizens are urged to adhere strictly to the safety instructions disseminated by the Civil Defense to mitigate risks associated with the heatwave.
