Post: OIC Warns Against Israeli Occupation’s Plans Targeting Hebron and Its Holy Sites

Hebron: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has issued a warning about the potential dangers posed by the Israeli occupation's plans to alter the political, historical, and legal status of the city of Hebron. The recent decision by the Israeli Minister of Finance to strip the Hebron municipality of its powers over the Ibrahimi Mosque, the Old City, and surrounding areas, as well as to revoke the Hebron Agreement, has raised significant concerns.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the General Secretariat emphasized that Israel, as the occupying power, holds no sovereignty over the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including Hebron and its religious and cultural sites. This stance aligns with resolutions from the United Nations and UNESCO, which affirm the status of these sites.

The General Secretariat reiterated its call for the international community to uphold its responsibilities in preserving and protecting the Ibrahimi Mosque, the Old City of Hebron, and other historical landmarks. These sites are considered an integral part of the State of Palestine's territory and cultural heritage and are inscribed on UNESCO's List of World Heritage in Danger.
