Post: Occupation Forces Palestinian to Demolish His Own Room in Silwan

Silwan: Israeli occupation authorities forced a Palestinian resident to demolish his own room in the Silwan neighborhood, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, on Tuesday. The Jerusalem Governorate explained in a statement that the occupation authorities compelled Jalal al-Taweel, a resident of Jerusalem, to demolish his room located in the al-Bustan area of Silwan, citing the reason as building without a permit.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency, al-Taweel mentioned that the room, which measured 70 square meters, had been standing since 1975. However, the Israeli municipality insisted he demolish it himself to avoid hefty fines and the costs associated with forced demolition. This situation reflects a broader pattern where Israeli occupation authorities mandate Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem to demolish their own homes under the pretext of lacking necessary permits. Those who refuse to comply face the demolition of their homes by Israeli bulldozers, along with significant financial penalties and the burden of demolition costs.
