Occupation Expands Qalandiya Checkpoint to Connect with Colonial Roads

Jerusalem: A video released by Israeli media outlets reveals ongoing construction activities near the Qalandiya military checkpoint, situated to the north of occupied Jerusalem. In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, the Jerusalem Governorate reported that Israeli occupation forces are working to link this new checkpoint to the colonial Route 45, which extends from the Mukhmas area to the checkpoint.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the route is projected to eventually stretch from Qalandiya towards Route 443 and the road leading to the Atarot colonial settlement. The Jerusalem Governorate highlighted that these efforts are part of broader colonial infrastructure projects implemented by the occupation around Jerusalem. The purpose of these projects is to connect colonial settlements located north of Jerusalem and east of Ramallah to the city, thereby consolidating Israeli control over the region through a road network that primarily benefits the colonists.

The statement further emphasized that such colonial initiatives exacerbate the isolation of Palestinian communities from one another, entrenching a new geographical reality. This network restricts Palestinian movement while simultaneously enhancing connectivity among the colonial blocs surrounding Jerusalem.
