More Than 100 British MPs Call on Prime Minister to Recognize State of Palestine

London: More than 100 British members of parliament (MPs) have called on British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, to immediately recognize the state of Palestine. This appeal was made through a letter organized by Labour backbencher Sarah Champion, who serves as the chair of Westminster's International Development Committee.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the letter emphasized that British recognition of Palestine would carry significant weight due to the country's historical involvement as the author of the Balfour Declaration and its role as the former Mandatory Power in Palestine. The MPs highlighted that since 1980, the UK has supported a two-state solution, and such recognition would substantiate this stance while honoring a historical responsibility to the people once under the Mandate.

The letter further articulated that recognizing Palestine would not only align with the UK's long-standing policy but also provide tangible support to the two-state resolution that has been advocated for decades. The MPs believe that this step is crucial in contributing to peace and stability in the region.
