Valletta: Malta on Friday formally notified President Mahmoud Abbas of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming UNGA conference in New York. The announcement marks a significant diplomatic move as Malta prepares to voice its support for Palestinian statehood on the international stage. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Permanent Secretary at Malta's Foreign Ministry, Christopher Cutajar, delivered an official letter to Palestinian Ambassador to Malta, Fadi Hanania. The letter, from Prime Minister Robert Abela, affirmed Malta's decision to recognize the State of Palestine during next week's UNGA in New York. Prime Minister Abela's letter reiterated Malta's support for the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people. It confirmed that the government will officially recognize Palestinian statehood during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. This step aligns with Malta's ongoing support for a two-state solution and its commitment to peace an d stability in the region.
