Kurdish Security Member Killed, Another Injured in Strikes Near Erbil Airport: Official

Erbil: A member of the Kurdish security forces was killed and another injured in strikes targeting the vicinity of the Erbil Airport in Iraq, a Kurdish official said Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erbil Gov. Omed Khoshnaw told The New Region news outlet that Walatt Taher, 32, a member of the Kurdish security forces (Asayish) stationed at the airport, was killed in the overnight attacks, while another security member was injured.

Heavy explosions were heard late Saturday in Erbil in northern Iraq, an Anadolu correspondent reported. The strikes are part of a series of attacks that began on Feb. 28, when Iran launched missiles and drones toward Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.

Tehran stated that the attacks are a response to a US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, which has resulted in the deaths of hundreds, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military officials.
