Journalists Syndicate Warns of Journalist Ali Samoudi’s Life in Danger Due to Medical Neglect in Israeli Jails

Gaza city: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has raised alarms over the grave threat to the life of journalist Ali Samoudi, aged 59. This follows a decision by an Israeli occupation court to extend his administrative detention for a third consecutive time by four months. No charges have been filed against Samoudi, nor has he been presented for a fair trial, actions which the Syndicate claims are in direct violation of international law and press freedom.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Syndicate places full responsibility for Samoudi's deteriorating health on the occupation authorities. Reports from the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) indicate that Samoudi has lost approximately 40 kilograms and is suffering from several health conditions. These include scabies, diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, continuous gum bleeding, sudden heart rate increases, repeated fainting spells, chronic headaches, a urinary tract infection, and issues with his left ear, all amid alleged deliberate medical neglect.

The Syndicate has condemned the harsh treatment Samoudi has reportedly faced at Israel's Megiddo detention facility, characterizing it as a form of torture and degrading treatment, which are prohibited under international conventions and agreements. They highlighted the assaults, repression, and humiliating conditions he has endured.

An urgent appeal has been issued to the international community, human rights organizations, journalists' unions, and international media outlets. The Syndicate is calling for immediate action to pressure the Israeli occupation government to cease the policy of administrative detention against journalists, ensure Samoudi's immediate release, and hold those responsible accountable for ongoing violations against Palestinian journalism.

The continued use of administrative detention against journalists is viewed by the Syndicate as a systematic attempt to silence the Palestinian voice and suppress the truth. They are advocating for Samoudi's immediate and unconditional release and for him to receive urgent medical care.
