Amman: The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned on Wednesday the Israeli authorities' approval of the construction of 2,162 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank. The Ministry emphasized that this action constitutes a violation of international law and humanitarian principles, undermining efforts for a two-state solution and infringing upon the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, ending the occupation, and establishing an independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, the official spokesperson for the Ministry, Ambassador Fouad Majali, reaffirmed Jordan's condemnation and rejection of the Israeli government's ongoing colonial projects in the occupied West Bank. Majali stated that such plans entrench occupation and colonial expansion, undermining international efforts for a two-state solution and violating international law, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which opposes Israeli measures altering the Palestinian territory's demographic composition since 1967.
Majali referenced the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion affirming the illegality of the Israeli occupation and the invalidity of settlement construction and annexation measures in the West Bank. He urged the international community to fulfill its legal and moral obligations, compelling Israel to halt its escalation and unilateral actions in the occupied territories.
Majali highlighted the necessity of recognizing the Palestinian people's rights, particularly the establishment of an independent state on their national soil, as the sole path to achieving a just and comprehensive peace that ensures security and stability in the region.
