Ramallah: An Israeli military court at Ofer prison has sentenced Palestinian prisoner Hayel Issa Abdel-Jaber Deifallah to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of 1.5 million shekels in compensation. The 59-year-old, hailing from the town of Rafat, south of Ramallah, received the sentence during a hearing where he was represented by attorney Akram Samara from the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Deifallah was detained by Israeli forces in September 2024 after being shot and wounded. Following his detention, Israeli authorities demolished his family's home in March 2025, which organizations describe as a collective punishment and reprisal.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Society and the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs highlighted that this recent ruling adds to the number of Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences in Israeli jails, bringing the total to 115.
