Post: Israeli Forces Intensify Detentions and Interrogations in West Bank

Qalqilya:Israeli forces conducted an extensive campaign of detentions and field interrogations, targeting around 95 Palestinians across multiple areas in the West Bank. The operations primarily took place in Aqaba in Tubas Governorate, Madama in Nablus Governorate, and Yatta in southern Hebron, as well as regions in Jenin, Bethlehem, and al-Bireh.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the campaign included a large-scale detention effort in Qalqilya, where former prisoners and their families, including the mother and wife of a prisoner, were targeted. Troops also raided and searched numerous homes, including that of Muayyad Shaaban, who leads the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission.

The Palestinian Prisoners' Society reported that these actions were characterized by vandalism and the destruction of household items, and residents faced assaults. The society emphasized that this escalation is part of a broader pattern of increased violence, coinciding with colonist attacks on Palestinian communities and the olive harvest season, marked by repeated attacks and land seizures.

The society highlighted that such mass detentions and field interrogations are part of the control system imposed by the Israeli occupation, which also includes raids, abuse, home demolitions, and attacks on Palestinians and their properties. It noted an unprecedented rise in these activities since the beginning of Israeli aggression in Gaza.

The number of detentions in the West Bank has surpassed 26,000 since the war in Gaza began, with additional detentions in the Gaza Strip. Israel announced that since the start of the war, it has conducted 46,000 detentions and interrogations of Palestinians in the West Bank.

The Palestinian Prisoner's Society warned that these ongoing violations, occurring without international accountability, encourage further use of detentions, interrogations, and other repressive measures. It urged the international community and human rights organizations to take action and hold Israel accountable for these violations, including mass detentions, torture, deliberate killings, and settlement activities.
