Jenin: Israeli occupation forces opened fire on a diplomatic delegation at the entrance to the Jenin refugee camp on Wednesday. The delegation was present to assess the situation in the camp.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the incident occurred when occupation soldiers stationed at the camp fired live ammunition directly at the delegation and accompanying journalists. The delegation was near an iron gate recently installed by occupation forces at the camp's eastern entrance.
The diplomatic delegation, comprised of representatives from Arab and foreign ministries, had visited the Jenin Governorate headquarters earlier in the day. During their visit, they reviewed the city's current conditions, including economic challenges, commercial losses, infrastructure damage, and the plight of approximately 22,000 displaced persons forced from their homes by the occupation forces.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the targeting of the delegation, labeling it a severe violation of international law and diplomatic protocols as outlined in the 1961 Vienna Convention. The Ministry highlighted the act as a dangerous escalation in the occupation's behavior, illustrating a blatant disregard for international law and the sovereignty of the State of Palestine.
The delegation included ambassadors and representatives from numerous countries, including Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, the European Union, Portugal, China, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Turkey, Spain, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Japan, Romania, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Canada, India, Chile, France, the United Kingdom, and others.
