Israeli Forces Detain Five Palestinians from West Bank Amid Ongoing Raids

Nablus: Israeli occupation forces Monday evening detained at least five Palestinians from the occupied West Bank, according to security sources. They said that special Israeli forces sneaked their way to Tunisia Street, west of Nablus, and rounded up a youth from his store. Also in the Nablus governorate, Israeli soldiers manning a checkpoint near Sarra town detained a girl after inspecting the vehicle she was riding.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the occupying forces also detained three Palestinians, including two brothers, after ransacking their houses in the Jenin refugee camp, which has been the target of Israeli aggression for 35 consecutive days. Earlier today, another Palestinian was detained in the town of Sa'ir, northeast of Hebron, where his son was beaten and his vehicle seized.

In the predawn hours of Monday, the occupation forces detained three young men in separate raids in the Ramallah governorate. The detainees were residents of Silwad, Kobar, and Beit Rima. In Nablus, the forces conducted searches in several houses, rounding up two brothers. They also entered the Al-Quds Open University campus and confiscated the CCTV camera system's video recorder.

In the Jenin governorate, during military activities in Qabatiya town, the occupation forces imposed a 48-hour curfew, damaging infrastructure and cutting off utilities. Houses were turned into military outposts, and several Palestinians were detained. Estimates suggest that approximately 160 Palestinians have been detained since the aggression began in Jenin.

The occupation forces also detained four residents, including two fathers and their sons, in Silwad town, east of Ramallah. In Surda town, north of Ramallah, a former prisoner was rearrested. These raids, lacking search warrants, occur almost daily across the West Bank, often leading to clashes with residents.

Under Israeli military law, army commanders have full authority over 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank, who have no say in the exercise of this power. According to Addameer, there are currently 10,000 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli detention, including 365 children and 15 women. This includes 3,369 Palestinians held under 'administrative detention,' which permits detention without charge based on undisclosed evidence.

Mass arrests of Palestinians are a longstanding issue. A 2017 report by Addameer highlighted that over 800,000 Palestinians have been detained by Israel over 50 years, a figure now estimated to be closer to 1 million. Consequently, about 40% of Palestinian men and boys under military occupation have been incarcerated, with nearly every Palestinian family experiencing the imprisonment of a loved one.
