Post: Israeli Forces Conduct Extensive Detentions Across Occupied West Bank

Hebron: Israeli occupation forces detained five Palestinians from Western Yatta, south of the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, according to local sources. The forces rounded up five Palestinians and assaulted several others in the Khallet al-Farra area. The soldiers acted when the detainees defended themselves and their families against attacks by Israeli colonists.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, earlier in the day, the occupation forces conducted multiple raids across the occupied West Bank, mostly in the predawn hours, resulting in the detention of 28 Palestinians. In the Jerusalem governorate, Israeli soldiers detained three Palestinians, including a woman, from the Abu al-Hileu Bedouin community near al-Khan al-Ahmar. Additionally, in the Bethlehem governorate, Israeli forces conducted a raid in Al-Ubeidiya town, resulting in the detention of another individual.

In the Hebron governorate, soldiers detained a Palestinian and assaulted others in Sa'ir town for attempting to fend off a colonist attack. The forces also raided two houses in Hebron City, detaining two Palestinians, and rounded up another after ransacking his family's house in Deir Samet town. In the Salfit governorate, four Palestinians were detained, one identified as a resident of Qarawat Bani Hassan town and three others from Bruqin town.

In the Tubas governorate, a raid in Tayasir village led to the detention of a Palestinian. Meanwhile, in the Nablus governorate, soldiers ransacked a house and detained another individual from the Askar area. In the Qalqilya governorate, a convoy of army vehicles stormed Sanniriya town, detaining five residents and ransacking their houses. In the Ramallah governorate, separate raids in the Jalazone refugee camp and Budrus village resulted in the detention of nine Palestinians and searches of their houses.

The occupation forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost daily across the West Bank under the pretext of searching for 'wanted' Palestinians, often triggering clashes with residents. These operations are conducted without a search warrant, in line with the military's sweeping powers. Under Israeli military law, army commanders have full authority over the 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank, leaving Palestinians with no say in how this authority is exercised.

According to the latest figures from Addameer, the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, there are currently 9,300 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention centers. This includes 350 child prisoners and 56 female prisoners, with approximately 3,358 Palestinians held under 'administrative detention'. This practice allows for detention without charge or trial for renewable intervals, based on undisclosed evidence unavailable even to the detainee's lawyer.
