Post: Israeli Forces Commence Demolition of 20 Homes in Barta’a

Barta'a: Israeli forces on Monday began demolishing 20 Palestinian homes in the town of Barta'a, southwest of Jenin, in the northern occupied West Bank.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Ghassan Qabha, mayor of Barta'a, stated that an Israeli court had issued a ruling on Sunday ordering the demolition of 20 homes in the southern section of the town. Israeli bulldozers arrived at the town's entrance on Monday to implement the order.

Qabha mentioned that lawyers representing the municipality and affected residents submitted an appeal to the court earlier in the day, but the appeal was rejected, allowing the demolition of all 20 homes to proceed. He noted that residents of eight of the targeted houses had managed to remove their belongings, while occupants of the remaining homes refused to evacuate their possessions.

Qabha further explained that the 20 homes shelter approximately 100 people, who now face displacement and homelessness due to the demolitions. As demolition vehicles entered the area, residents climbed onto the rooftops of the threatened homes in protest of the planned demolition campaign.
