Gaza City: An Israeli drone strike on Thursday night resulted in the deaths of two civilians and left others injured at the Saftawi junction, north of Gaza City. The strike targeted a tent sheltering civilians who had fled from ongoing conflict in other areas of the Gaza Strip.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the occupation forces conducted the strike amidst an escalation of hostilities. This follows Israel's unilateral decision to end the Gaza ceasefire agreement, resuming its aggressive actions on the Strip on March 18. The renewed aggression has led to a wave of airstrikes across the region, resulting in hundreds of Palestinian casualties, including over 100 children.
Medical sources report that the death toll has risen to at least 1,928, with more than 5,055 individuals wounded. Emergency teams are currently engaged in efforts to recover victims trapped beneath the rubble. On Thursday alone, Israeli airstrikes claimed the lives of 52 civilians, including 39 in Gaza City and the northern areas of the Strip.
The resumption of hostilities has raised significant concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, exacerbated by a continuing siege and restrictions on medical and humanitarian aid. Since October 2023, the Israeli military campaign has resulted in the deaths of 51,355 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, with 117,248 others injured.
In addition, at least 10,000 people remain unaccounted for, presumed to be deceased beneath the ruins of their homes. The conflict has also led to the displacement of nearly two million people, with the majority being forced into the densely populated southern city of Rafah near the Egyptian border. This displacement marks the largest mass exodus in Palestine since the 1948 Nakba.
