Israeli Colonists Open Fire on Palestinian Olive Pickers in Huwara

Huwara: Israeli colonists fired live ammunition on Tuesday at Palestinian olive pickers in the town of Huwara, south of Nablus, forcing them to leave their lands and halt the harvest. Huwara Council head Jihad Odeh reported that dozens of colonists from the illegal colony Yitzhar targeted farmers in the al-Tira area of the town's northern neighborhood. The attack resulted in one person sustaining injuries, including a broken foot, while trying to escape the gunfire.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Odeh emphasized that the town frequently faces colonist attacks on residents, particularly during the olive harvest season. These incidents disrupt the daily lives of residents and pose a threat to their agricultural livelihoods.

Minister Mu'ayyad Shaaban, head of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, highlighted the prevalence of such attacks. He noted that since the start of the olive harvest season in the first week of October, the occupation army and colonists have conducted a total of 259 attacks against olive pickers. The Commission's teams have recorded 41 attacks by the occupation army and 218 by colonists. These incidents have included violent physical assaults, arrest campaigns, movement restrictions, denial of access, intimidation, and direct gunfire, as recently occurred in the Tubas Governorate.

The attacks have primarily occurred in the governorates of Ramallah with 83 incidents, followed by Nablus with 69, and Hebron with 34.
