Israeli Authorities Compel Palestinian Family to Self-Demolish Homes Near Jerusalem

Jerusalem: Israeli occupation authorities forced Jerusalemite resident Raed Abdel Aziz Dabash to demolish his own home and that of his son in the town of Sur Baher, southeast of occupied Jerusalem, under the pretext of building without a permit.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Jerusalem Governorate reported that the two houses, totaling approximately 90 square meters, housed eight people. It noted that the homes were constructed in 2014, despite the occupation's policies that restrict the issuance of building permits to Jerusalemites.

The Governorate further stated that Israeli authorities had imposed exorbitant building fines on the two houses, exceeding 100,000 shekels. This action is seen as part of a systematic policy aimed at restricting Jerusalemite residents and targeting their presence in the city.

The Jerusalem Governorate emphasized that the policy of forced self-demolition constitutes a crime of coercion and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. It holds the occupation authorities fully responsible for the consequences of these measures, which exacerbate the suffering of Jerusalemite families.
