Israeli Authorities Compel Palestinian Family to Demolish Their Home in Galilee

Al-ba'na: Israeli authorities forced the Palestinian family of Amer Titi to demolish their own home in the village of al-Ba'na in the Galilee region on Saturday night. This action was taken to avoid a fine of nearly $159,000, which would have been imposed if the authorities carried out the demolition themselves.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the family stated that the house, built approximately 15 years ago, was home to 15 individuals. Although the demolition order had been frozen for several years, Israeli authorities resumed enforcement in recent times, leaving the family with limited options for negotiation.

On the same day, another Palestinian family from the town undertook a similar demolition to avoid the substantial fines that would have been incurred if the authorities had performed the demolition.

Home demolitions have long been employed by Israeli authorities as a measure against Palestinian families in Israel and the occupied territories. These actions are often justified by claims of construction without Israeli permits. Families are frequently given minimal notice, subjected to heavy fines, or compelled to demolish their own homes to avoid even higher costs.
