Israel Summons Palestinian Authority’s Jerusalem Governor for Interrogation

Jerusalem: Israeli occupation intelligence summoned Fatah Revolutionary Council member and Jerusalem Governor Adnan Ghaith for interrogation at an Israeli police station in occupied Jerusalem on Wednesday morning. The Jerusalem Governorate highlighted that this summons is part of ongoing arbitrary measures Ghaith has faced since assuming his duties as Jerusalem Governor in 2018.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, during his tenure, Ghaith has been subjected to harsh military orders by the occupation authorities. These orders have included a ban on his entry into the West Bank and restrictions on his movement, confining him to a narrow geographical area within his neighborhood in Silwan. Additionally, for the seventh consecutive year, Ghaith has been prohibited from communicating with 51 national and official figures, including other Palestinian political and security leaders.

Ghaith has also been under house arrest for more than two years in Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque. This measure appears to be an attempt to sever his connection to the political and national scene in the occupied capital. The occupation authorities' ongoing measures aim to restrict the work and movements of national figures, as part of a policy to diminish Palestinian presence and sovereignty in Jerusalem while imposing an alternative based on enforced Jewish sovereignty.
