Israel Re-Detains 100 Former Prisoners Since October 2023: PPS

Ramallah: Israel has re-detained approximately 100 former prisoners since October 7, 2023, following their release under a ceasefire agreement concerning the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) reported that the Israeli occupation is intensifying its focus on these individuals through a series of arrests, field interrogations, and questioning.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, this escalation is considered part of a systematic policy by Israeli authorities. The PPS highlighted that this approach constitutes a new breach of the ceasefire agreement and sends a message to the released prisoners that they continue to be targets of harassment and persecution.

The PPS further indicated that the occupation has detained nearly 100 released prisoners since the 2003 war, with some individuals being arrested multiple times. The organization emphasized that the Israeli occupation has bolstered its targeting of these former prisoners through military orders and laws, which provide broader authority for their pursuit.

The PPS noted that the violations have escalated to the level of organized operations, including assaults by beating prior to their release and continuing afterward. Additionally, the former prisoners and their families have been subjected to ongoing threats.
