Jerusalem: The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) and the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission announced that the occupation authorities have issued new and renewed administrative detention orders against 55 Palestinian detainees.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the PPS and the commission revealed in a joint statement that the Israeli occupation is intensifying its use of administrative detention under the justification of a "secret file." The statement highlighted that administrative detainees now constitute the largest group among Palestinian prisoners compared to those who are sentenced, awaiting trial, or deemed "unlawful combatants."
This situation represents a significant increase since the onset of the genocide, with the number of administrative detainees now approximately 3,600. The PPS and the Commission have released the names of the detainees who have received new and renewed detention orders, all of whom are detained without charge or trial.
The duration of these detentions ranges from three to six months. Israel's policy of administrative detention, which has faced widespread condemnation, permits the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable periods, typically ranging from three to six months, based on undisclosed evidence that is not accessible even to the detainee's lawyer.
B'Tselem, an Israeli human rights organization, states that Israel's use of administrative detention is in clear violation of international law restrictions, carried out in a manner that is highly classified, thus preventing detainees from mounting a proper defense.
