Israel Issues and Renews Administrative Detention Orders Against 28 Palestinian Detainees

Ramallah: The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PRCS) stated in a joint release on Tuesday that Israeli occupation authorities issued and renewed administrative detention orders against 28 Palestinian detainees. The period of the detentions varied between three to six months.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the Israeli occupation continues to escalate the practice of administrative detention under the pretext of a “secret file,” noting that the number of administrative detainees constitutes the highest proportion compared to the numbers of detained and convicted prisoners and those classified as “unlawful combatants.” This has seen an unprecedented rise since the start of the genocide.

Israel’s policy of administrative detention, which has faced widespread condemnation, allows for the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals, usually ranging between three and six months, based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.

B’Tselem, an Israeli human rights group, commented on the situation, stating, “Israel’s use of administrative detention blatantly violates the restrictions of international law. Israel carries it out in a highly classified manner that denies detainees the possibility of mounting a proper defense.”
