Jerusalem: Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen announced on Wednesday that he would personally oversee the disconnection of water and electricity to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) headquarters in East Jerusalem.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Cohen revealed his plan during a press conference, stating, "I am now on my way to East Jerusalem to personally witness the cutting off of water and electricity to its headquarters." This action follows decisions by the Israeli Knesset at the end of 2025 to terminate services to the UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem.
The move is the culmination of a series of decisions starting in late 2024 when the Knesset resolved to prevent UNRWA from operating within East Jerusalem and Israel. Additionally, at the start of 2025, Israel compelled UNRWA to vacate its main headquarters in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem. Subsequently, Israeli authorities seized the premises and initiated demolition activities.
