Post: Israel Blocks International Delegation from Entering West Bank for Birzeit University Conference

Baku:West Bank Israeli authorities have barred an international delegation from entering the occupied West Bank through the Allenby Crossing. The delegation, consisting of parliamentarians and political and academic figures, was set to participate in a conference at Birzeit University titled 'Global South Solidarity and Resistance to Imperialism.'

According to Palestine news & Information Agency – WAFA – English, the delegation included 23 participants from various countries. Notable members were British Labour MP Clive Lewis, Lara Bird of the Scottish National Party, Scottish Green Party member Kate Nevens, Spanish senator Josu Estarrona Elizondo, and former British MP Sam Tarry. The group intended to engage with students, academics, and Palestinian civil society representatives, and partake in activities supporting Palestinian farmers amid increasing settler attacks.

The delegation was reportedly detained and interrogated for several hours by Israeli authorities before being denied entry. This action is part of broader restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities on Palestinian institutions, which affect academic exchange and cultural engagement opportunities.

Birzeit University emphasized the need for safeguarding academic freedom and maintaining global academic connections. The university advocates for continued cooperation with international academics and institutions that support Palestinian rights.
