Cairo: The 2026 International Conference on al-Qods convened in Cairo, organized by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations, focusing on the pivotal role of Jerusalem in the ongoing conflict and peace process. Ambassador Dr. Dawas Dawas, speaking on behalf of the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, highlighted the importance of Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine and its status as an occupied territory since 1967. According to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Dawas addressed Israel's ongoing efforts to change Jerusalem's historical, legal, and demographic landscape through settlement expansion and other measures. He highlighted the violations of international law, including attacks on holy sites such as the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and called for international intervention to halt these actions. Ambassador Dawas reiterated that Israeli attempts to alter the Palestinian identity of Jerusalem and its holy sites hold no legal validity. He also highligh ted the broader Israeli actions across the West Bank, urging international pressure to stop these violations immediately. Dawas called for concrete international actions towards a two-state solution, including recognizing the State of Palestine and supporting its UN membership. He emphasized the need for adherence to international law and resolutions to end the occupation and cease unilateral measures undermining peace efforts. The conference featured high-level participation from Palestinian and Egyptian officials, UN representatives, and other international dignitaries. Discussions focused on protecting Jerusalem's identity, opposing displacement and annexation policies, and supporting Palestinian resilience for a lasting peace grounded in international legitimacy. This annual conference, organized by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, aims to maintain international focus on Jerusalem as central to the Palestinian cause and the Organisation's priorities.
