ICHR Demands Justice for Uday Al-Rubaee’s Killing in Gaza

Gaza City: The Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) has condemned the killing of 22-year-old Uday Al-Rubaee from Gaza City, labeling the incident as a grave violation of the right to life and an extrajudicial killing. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Al-Rubaee was abducted on the evening of Friday, March 28, 2025, at approximately 8:30 PM from his displacement shelter at the Tel Al-Hawa Boys' Preparatory School by an armed group. The victim's family reported that after conducting searches and inquiries, they discovered his location at Al-Quds Hospital about six hours later. Upon their arrival, they found him in critical condition, prompting his transfer to Al-Shifa Medical Complex. The family revealed that Al-Rubaee bore severe signs of torture, including being restrained by his neck and hands, deep wounds, multiple burns, internal bleeding, severe neurological and circulatory shock, a ruptured heart nerve, and fractures in the skull, pelvis, and back. The ICHR expressed in a statement that this crime is indicative of the deteriorating security situation in Gaza, characterized by the proliferation of weapons and the absence of the rule of law, which poses a significant threat to public rights and freedoms. In response, the ICHR has called for an immediate and independent investigation into Al-Rubaee's killing, urging for the disclosure of the perpetrators' identities and their prosecution under the law to ensure justice is served. The organization also demanded an end to extrajudicial assaults on citizens and insisted on strict adherence to Palestinian law and international human rights standards. Furthermore, it emphasized the need to restrict law enforcement measures to legally authorized entities and ensure that arrests and judicial procedures comply with legal standards, while implementing lawful measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
