Greek Orthodox Patriarchate Urges Christians to Attend Holy Saturday Celebrations Amid Restrictions

Jerusalem: The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem has called upon the Christian community to participate in the Holy Saturday celebrations at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in occupied Jerusalem. This appeal comes in the wake of recent restrictions imposed on the church.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Patriarchate emphasized that gathering at the Holy Sepulchre on Holy Saturday is a vital tradition that embodies the message of their ancestors and maintains the spirit of the Holy City. The Patriarchate highlighted that the light emanating from Jerusalem and embraced globally symbolizes life.

The Patriarchate's statement further elaborated that this sacred light, passed from one person to another, signifies the continuous presence of Christians in the Holy City, their commitment to heritage, and their steadfast faith. The statement also expressed a hope for peace and justice to prevail worldwide.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre had been closed by Israeli occupation forces for 40 days, which prevented prayers from being held there, citing security reasons. Meanwhile, Christian churches following the Eastern Orthodox calendar are preparing to celebrate the Holy Fire, which marks the day before Easter Sunday.
