GPC Report Highlights Dire Situation for Disabled and Elderly in Gaza

Gaza: The Global Protection Cluster (GPC) has revealed that there is no safe space in Gaza, as two years of intense Israeli hostilities have severely compromised the protection environment for persons with disabilities and older individuals.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the GPC's report, released last night, delves into the challenging living and humanitarian conditions faced by people with disabilities, injuries, and the elderly in the Gaza Strip. The report comes 21 months after the genocide allegations against Israel for actions against Palestinians.

The GPC, a network that includes UN human rights agencies, international organizations, and civil society non-governmental organizations, stated that the ongoing violent hostilities have destroyed the protective environment for vulnerable populations in Gaza. The report highlights that 134,105 people, including over 40,500 children, have sustained new war-related injuries.

Furthermore, the GPC estimates that 25% of these newly injured individuals are experiencing new disabilities that demand serious and ongoing rehabilitation. The report also indicates that more than 35,000 people have suffered significant hearing damage from explosions.

One of the most alarming statistics in the report is that ten children in Gaza lose one or both of their legs every day due to the ongoing conflict. The GPC's findings underscore the urgent need for international attention and intervention to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
