Gaza: For the third consecutive day, the Gaza Governorate in the northern Gaza Strip has been experiencing intense shelling as Israeli occupation forces escalate their military campaign in the region.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Israeli occupation forces expanded their attack, which initially began in the North Gaza Governorate in early October 2024. The offensive aims to displace thousands of Palestinians and has now reached the Gaza Governorate, affecting approximately 550,000 residents. This includes around 180,000 individuals who were previously displaced from North Gaza due to continuous attacks.
Medical sources report that at least 184 people, including children and women, have been killed over the past 72 hours, with dozens more injured. Israeli forces have conducted 94 airstrikes and artillery shellings during this period. On January 4 alone, over 45 civilians were reported killed in the latest attacks on Gaza City and surrounding areas.
The situation is worsening as Israeli warplanes intensify airstrikes, targeting residential areas. These attacks have destroyed buildings and resulted in numerous casualties, with many people trapped under rubble awaiting rescue.
Residents of Gaza fear forced relocation to Al-Mawasi, a southern region of the Gaza Strip. Israeli forces are urging people to move there despite severe shortages of essential resources like food, water, and medical supplies, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
The journey to Al-Mawasi is perilous, with limited access via sea routes and the main Salah al-Din road, both affected by ongoing assaults. Displaced families face harsh living conditions and struggle to find basic necessities amidst collapsing infrastructure.
As the conflict continues, the death toll rises, and the humanitarian situation deteriorates. Human rights organizations and international observers warn of a potential humanitarian disaster, with no resolution in sight to the ongoing conflict.
