Gaza City:Large crowds gathered on Sunday morning to attend the funerals of 75 Palestinians whose remains were recovered from beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings in the al-Daraj neighborhood.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA – English, approximately 8,000 bodies are still believed to be buried under the debris across the Gaza Strip. Recovery teams face significant challenges due to a lack of heavy machinery and equipment necessary for retrieval.
The Palestinian Ministry of Justice's national team for following up on missing persons reported in October that over 10,000 people have been missing in Gaza since October 2023, with more than 8,000 believed to remain beneath the rubble. These figures are estimates from various sources and do not form a consolidated count.
Recovery operations are severely hindered by the absence of heavy machinery and forensic equipment. Many bodies and human remains have to be retrieved manually, leaving families waiting for the chance to bury their loved ones with dignity.
The extensive destruction throughout Gaza has resulted in vast amounts of rubble covering residential areas. Furthermore, restrictions and shortages affecting essential equipment continue to obstruct search-and-recovery efforts.
