Gaza: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has warned that the Israeli authorities are moving forward with plans to annex vast areas of the occupied West Bank under the so-called "Greater Jerusalem" project.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the ministry issued a statement on Sunday evening condemning discussions by Israel's Ministerial Committee for Legislation regarding this matter. The plan is expected to be presented for approval in the Knesset, Israel's Parliament.
The ministry characterized this move as a major crime aimed at advancing Israel's policy of annexation, forced displacement of Palestinian residents, and destruction of essential foundations of life in the occupied West Bank. This, the ministry argues, undermines any prospects for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
The ministry has called for serious international action to prevent the implementation of this plan, warning of its devastating impact on chances of resolving the conflict through peaceful means. It also emphasized active engagement with the international community and governments worldwide to address this issue.
