Ramallah: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, received today a phone call from Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, during which they discussed the outcome of the recent talks between President Mahmoud Abbas and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese regarding the recognition of the State of Palestine. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Australian minister affirmed her country's commitment to the two-state solution, noting that the recognition of the State of Palestine is now tied to the appropriate timing. For her part, Shahin stressed the importance of Australia being at the forefront of countries recognizing the State of Palestine, as this would contribute to safeguarding the two-state solution and consolidating Palestinian rights, at a time when the international community must support the Palestinian people by embodying their state and enabling them to attain independence. The two sides agreed to continue coordination and hold a bil ateral meeting on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly next September.
