Basel: The official opening ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest, held this year in Basel, Switzerland, saw anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian protests. Protesters waved Palestinian flags, demanded Israel's expulsion from the contest, and chanted anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian slogans.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Swiss singer Nemo, who won last year's Eurovision Song Contest in Malm¶, Sweden, stated his opposition to Israel's participation in this year's contest and voiced support for calls for its exclusion. He remarked that Israel's actions fundamentally contradict the values that the Eurovision Song Contest claims to champion, such as peace, unity, and respect for human rights, referring specifically to Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip.
