Brussels: The European Union has warned of a deepening energy crisis, urging member states to reduce oil consumption in response to the ongoing impact of the war in the Middle East. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, following a meeting with EU energy ministers, EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen stated that the situation could deteriorate further. Jorgensen emphasized the importance of reducing oil demand and urged member states to consider this when implementing crisis measures, highlighting the need for a unified approach. Jorgensen also pointed out that a quick return to normalcy is unlikely even if peace is restored in the Middle East, due to significant damage to energy infrastructure. Since the conflict began a month ago, gas prices in Europe have surged by 70 percent, while oil prices have risen by about 60 percent, resulting in an increase of approximately £14 billion in the EU's energy expenses.
